Take a look...

If music be the food of love, eat well and play on... Every couple of months we will be playing a few albums that we really think everyone should know about.

Avi Buffalo – Avi Buffalo

Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg began writing songs as a high-school sophomore using the name Avi Buffalo as his musical alias. Within a year's time, the Long Beach native had put together a full band and after playing several small shows had won the support of engineer Aaron Embry, who welcomed them into his home studio. The band's quirky lo-fi pop songs also attracted the attention of Sub Pop Records and the label released their first single in late 2009. It is now 2010 and here is their quirky and slightly sinister self titled debut.

Mr Scruff – Ninja Tuna

The authorial nickname of Manchester native Andy Carthy (his neatly trimmed beard being the source); Mr. Scruff is a quintessential type of DJ and both avid record collector and tea leaf connoisseur. His DJ sets are a trip through the best electronic, black and curveball sonics imaginable and his deal with Tetley Tea ensures as many gasps as his productions. All in all a very British type of knees up that's travelled the world and come back home again.

David Byrne & Fatboy Slim – Here Lies Love

A concept album based around the lives of Imelda Marcos and her nanny Estrella Cumpas, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's Here Lies Love is primarily a great pop record featuring a bevy of name female vocalists. Grand conceptual themes aside, Byrne, Slim, and Slim cohort Tom Gandey have delivered a kooky, fun, theatrical, and — more often than not — deliriously listenable collection of '70s and '80s club pop.

Joanna Newsom

Joanna Newsom is of singular style and sound. Armed with a Harp and a voice that makes grown ups cry a river, Joanna has been the ‘it girl’ for the eccentric and quirky of heart since The Milk Eyed Mender burst, oh so politely, onto the airwaves.

Have you ever imagined what it was like to attend a Jacobean banquet? I thought so, grab some Leon meatballs, stick the new album on your headphones and trip the light fantastic to another space and time.
